EC Instructional Assistant

Summary

Performs any combination of the following duties in the classroom to assist the teaching staff.

Qualifications

  • Must meet Paraprofessional Requirements: Two-year degree or 48 College semester hours.
  • Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to write simple correspondence

 

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Provide extra assistance to specific students as determined by the IEP and certified/licensed teacher or related service provider.
  • Implement instructional programs as designated by the certified/licensed teacher or related service provider.
  • Supervise/monitor children in hallway, lunchroom, and playground
  • Assist in monitoring supplementary work and independent study
  • Provide personal care assistance
  • Provide instructional support in the inclusion classroom
  •  Instruct small groups and individuals as directed by the teacher/provider
  • Reinforce teacher instruction by following lessons
  •  Assist in the preparation of instructional materials
  • Collect student performance data as directed by the teacher or related service provider
  • Keep daily progress records
  • Give training support to students who are participating in community environments, job training experiences, and other activities as directed by the teacher/provider
  •  Operate and maintain classroom equipment as needed
  • Perform clerical tasks such as typing and copying
  •  Assist in crisis management and implementation of behavioral intervention plans/strategies
  • Carry out individualized plans under the direction of the teacher
  • Other duties as assigned by principal/EC Director

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. 
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

  • visually inspect small defects and/or small parts

  • perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
  • work with both children and adults with disabilities
  • talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
  • lift students of various weights independently and with shared responsibility

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
