Instructional Assistant

Summary
Performs any combination of the following duties in the classroom to assist the teaching
staff. Full-time 37.5 hours per week 


Required education, training, and experience

  • Must meet Paraprofessional Requirements: Two-year degree or 48 college semester hours.
  • Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to write simple correspondence


Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Discusses assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Supervises groups to cafeteria, library, playground, and other areas as assigned
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids.
  • Operates learning aids and technological equipment
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Assists teacher in preparation of reports and/or materials
  • Assists in conferring with parents on the progress of students
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers,etc.
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
